What is the background of Taoism?
The Taoism best known in the West is often called “philosophical” Taoism after the great mystic writers Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu and Lieh Tzu of the 5th to 3rd centuries BCE. However, most Taoism as actually practiced comes from what is called “religious” Taoism founded by Chang Tao Ling in the 2nd century CE. though only a few survive in any significant form toda.
When, where and how did Taoism start? Taoism was started by the Chinese philosopher Lao Tze,the Supreme master, in the 6th century BCE. Tao lived in the same time as another ancient Chinese philosopher, Confucius. It is said that one day Lao Tze left his job and rode off west on an ox. At a mountain pass the guardian asked him to write down his teachings.

Where and how is Taoism practiced today?
If you ask a common person what means to practice Taoism today you'll find that you should go to the temple, pray to gods, sacrifice things, keep a certain diet, follow certain rituals, and so forth. This is nothing new and doesn't differ from other religions such as the Christian one. The place where Taoism is practiced is China or places that are unknown to people like me. There is a possibility that Taoism is practiced in this country or this continent or this state we just don't know exactly where.
